Welcome to Chez Mommy, May I Take Your Order?

Cooper can be picky about food. He DEFINITELY gets that from his Dad.

Although he was once fond of them, he's no longer a fan of peas. He's starting to reject green beans, but I'm still pushing them! He won't eat ham. He hates avacado. He doesn't like maple syrup but he enjoys pancakes.

He'll eat any cookie anytime anywhere. He likes corn, broccoli (sometimes) and carrots (sometimes). He LOVES eggs and bananas. He'll even smoosh his eggs and bananas together. Oddly enough, he likes beats, too!

Pasta, bread and potatoes are always winners. He tried a stuffed clam a while back and took to it like a true Cape Cod kid.

There are children that are called "white kids", not because of the color of their skin or because they happen to be the son of the Whites, but because they gravitate to white foods which they instinctively perceive as "safe". White foods being pasta, bread and potatoes.

Cooper's Uncle Jordan is a "white" kid. When he and Mitch had a play date at the Inn on Onset Bay, Jordan asked for a plain cheese sandwich on white bread. I asked him if he wanted me to trim off the crust. He said yes. Mitch wanted to know how I knew to ask about the crust. I told him that kids who want plain cheese sandwiches on white bread tend to like the crust trimmed.

Kids have many more taste buds than adults and not just because we tend to kill those buds off with our predilections. Their taste buds can become overwhelmed. It is instinct telling them that tart is poisonous and sweet is safe.

See http://www.oprah.com/health/oz/oz_20071008_350_101.jhtml to learn more.

We have a policy that we do not argue about food. If Mitch does not like what is being served there is always cereal or pbj or turkey dogs. He will try anything once because he knows he will not have to eat it if he does not like it.

I see tomato sauce on Coopers tray. He is not a "white" kid even though he is a White kid. I predict that some day he will be a gourmand just like his Mama and her parents....

Love you,
Susan

Susan -- thank you for clearing this up -- especially the tip about kids who like plain cheese sandwiches on white bread. That is pure genius.

Cooper continues to be the bomb.
